The College Football Playoff rankings have been released. Here's where Louisville landed.

The Cardinals are getting noticed as the football season progresses.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The first College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night, and the Louisville Cardinals find themselves in the mix.

The committee ranked UofL (7-1, 4-1 ACC) 13th in the initial rankings. Louisville is the second-highest ranked ACC team behind unbeaten Florida State at No. 4.

The Cardinals and Seminoles do not play each other in the regular season, but could meet in the ACC championship game.

The top four teams at the end of the season will compete for the national championship.

Louisville is one of the biggest surprises of the college football season. First year head coach Jeff Brohm has led the team to a pair of victories over ranked opponents, including a statement win over 15th-ranked Notre Dame.

Louisville has not appeared in the rankings since Nov. 2022 when they were ranked 25 after beating NC State 25-10.

The No. 13 ranking is the second-highest for the Cardinals since cracking the rankings at No. 7 on Nov. 1, 2016 when Louisville was 7-1. During that era, they finished the season 9-4.

Their first-ever appearance in the rankings at No. 25 during the 2014 season.
