Fort Wayne, Ind. (WHAS11) - Indiana-native Nick Goepper will be competing for Team USA in the Olympics in PyeongChang.

This won’t be Goepper’s first time representing the stars and stripes; he won a bronze medal for slopestyle skiing in 2014 at the Sochi Olympics.

Winning that medal had historical significance—he and two of his teammates swept the medals for that event. It was the third sweep ever for the U.S. in winter Olympics’ history, the first two happening in 1956 and 2002.

Goepper was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1994. He started skiing at age 5 and reportedly paid for his passes by selling candy bars. By age 11, he was competing in tournaments.

Goepper has won several medals in other world championships, and we’ll be rooting for him as he represents Kentuckiana in the 2018 Olympics.
