Play briefly suspended at Valhalla Golf Club due to inclement weather

Everyone at the golf club was ordered to shelter in place for roughly 30 minutes.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Spectators at Valhalla Golf Club were ordered to shelter in place for about half an hour Tuesday morning after play was suspended due to "potentially dangerous weather approaching."

Professional golfers from around the world were at Valhalla practicing ahead of the 2024 PGA Championship, which begins Thursday, May 19.

Just before 10 a.m., PGA officials suspended play due to heavy rain. Staff could be seen placing "Weather Warning" signs on the golf course just before the shelter in place was issued. A billboard advised guests to take precautions and seek shelter.

PGA Championship officials advised spectators to return to the Main Bus Terminal to return to their vehicles and said inbound buses will return to the parking lot for fans.

The shelter in place was lifted around 10:30 a.m. allowing play and practice to resume.

A slow-moving system is expected to bring scattered showers Tuesday with occasional rumbles of thunder.
