LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Racing Louisville FC veteran Lauren Milliet is going to be calling Louisville home for a while, as she recently signed a contract extension with the club through 2026.
"When everyone was like, 'Oh, you're going to Kentucky' and I was like 'yeah, I don't know about Kentucky,' but I got here and I was like 'this place rocks and it's so underrated' and like, there's so much to do here," Racing Milliet said.
She moved to Louisville back in 2021, and it's easy to see she's fallen in love with the city.
"I honestly, like, I can't say enough," Milliet said. "People are probably like, 'please stop talking.' But I'm like, I can't say enough good stuff about it. It's so cool."
On the pitch, Milliet's been a workhorse for Racing Louisville; according to the club, she's one of the two remaining players from the debut team and is one of seven iron women in the National Women's Soccer League.
She's also the club's all-time appearances leader, playing in every single minute of every single match during the 2023 season.
" I think what separates like good and gray at this level, is just the people that can do the basics the best," Milliet said. "And I think for me, it's just like, constantly working on my craft."
"I don't come in fit, or if I don't come in ready, then I don't feel like I'm prepared to then be consistent throughout the whole year."
Her dedication and love for the game is pushing her to look past her playing career as she's currently studying to get her coaching license.
"I think after I'm done playing, I think there's always that gray area, right?" Milliet said. "When you're, you've played soccer your whole entire life, right? So I think for me, I want to try to get ahead of my career after soccer, because soccer is not going to last forever."
But she's not giving up the ball any time soon since she signed the contract extension.
"I want to do it to the best of my ability, because I don't ever want to look back on my career and my time here, even at whatever club I'm at, I don't ever want to look back and say I did it halfway," Milliet said. "Or I did that I could have done better."
And she is going into this next season, ready to show the world what Louisville is capable of.
"I want people to see Louisville as like a powerhouse for women's soccer from Academy to top," Milliet said.
