LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former NBA player Stephen Jackson announced he was coming to Louisville to participate in protests over the Breonna Taylor case after his work in Minneapolis.
Jackson has been speaking out about racial injustice after his childhood friend, George Floyd, was killed when a police officer pinned him to the ground with his knee for almost nine minutes.
"A role has been placed in my lap that's bigger than me," Jackson said.
Jackson said multiple NBA players will join him during protests in Minneapolis later this week, also mentioning his plans to meet with the police chief, before he comes to Louisville.
"We coming to march with y'all," Jackson said. "We coming to protest with y'all. We're going to make sure these officers get arrested."
Taylor's family has been calling for the firing of the three police officers involved in her death, however all three were placed on administrative reassignment.
"Breonna Taylor, we coming baby," Jackson said. "You've got our support too."
The announcement comes after current NBA player and Louisville native D'Angelo Russell attended a protest Saturday alongside Louisvillians Bryson Tiller, Jack Harlow and Jamon Brown, as well as Bowling Green native Jets tackle George Fant. Saturday would have been Taylor's 27th birthday.
Jackson did not outline when he would come to Louisville.
