Louisville native and duPont Manual High School alum heading to 2024 Olympics

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville native punched his ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Monday.

After a second place finish in the men's 1,500 meter final, Yared Nuguse clenched a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games.

According to his college athletics profile at Notre Dame, this isn't his first qualification for the Olympics; he qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 1,500m by placing third in the Olympic Trials his senior year of college.

Nuguse also set the ACC, ACC Championship, facility and Notre Dame records for the 1,500 meter with 3:34.68 his senior year according to the college.

He also participated in the World Championships in 2023; according to his Team USA biography, he finished in fifth place in the 1,500m.

Nuguse graduated from duPont Manual High School in 2017 and also won the Kentucky Cross Country State Championship.
