(USA TODAY) - Parents learn to pick their battles. It's crucial for survival.
When it comes to screen time? That's a fight just about every parent now struggles with.
On one hand, you sometimes just want some peace and quiet in the car or grocery store. You are human, after all.
On the other hand, you can't help but feel guilty that you're maybe allowing your kid's brain to rot after the 100th hour of Peppa Pig YouTube videos. #TheStruggleIsReal. You're NOT alone.
Luckily, this new educational app might be a strong replacement.

California-based nonprofit Khan Academy launched a free educational app for ages 2 to 5 years old, focusing on subjects like math, science, reading, social studies and more. The app also offers creative activities like drawing and storytelling.
Khan Academy Kids is basically a one-stop shop for all early-learning development needs, founder, CEO and father of three Sal Khan told All the Moms.
Multiple subjects in one place
"As a parent, I’ve gone through the 'OK, I want my child to learn everything (phase),'" he said.
The problem was there were too many options for too many subjects, Khan said. And each year, his kids would outgrow them.
The Khan Academy Kids app offers all the subjects in one place, and it's designed to adapt to your child's learning process. It's also built to prep your kids for kindergarten.
Content without ads

According to the organization, the app's curriculum, developed in-part by "educators from the Stanford Graduate School and notable book authors," is on par with:
- The Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework for preschool-aged children
- Common Core State Standards for kindergarten-aged children
Head of the app Caroline Hu Flexer said the organization developed "highly interactive learning experiences" with fun music, animation and puppetry.
Because of the organization's nonprofit status, Khan told All the Moms ads are never part of the organization's offerings.

And a bulk of the content (think stories, photos and videos) in the app was donated via third-party companies, including Skyship Entertainment, Bellwether Media and National Geographic Young Explorer Magazine.
Where to get the app
The app is free in the Apple App Store. It's in beta for Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
