BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Saturday evening at 7:10 p.m. a two vehicle crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-65 near the 58 mile marker injuring 5 people.
Indiana State Police and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
Trooper Korry Clark's preliminary investigation indicated that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata being driven by Bryan Davis, 39, of Columbus, Indiana was traveling southbound when his vehicle struck the back of a 2015 Kia SUV being driven by Brian Dayharsh, 51, of Coatesville, Indiana.
The force of the collision forced both vehicles off the roadway, causing the SUV to rollover and come to rest upright.
Dayharsh, driving the SUV was traveling with his 4 daughters to Florida for spring break.
All five people in the vehicle were injured. Dayharsh along with daughters Natalie 4, Daniella, 9 and Evelyn, 6 were all transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with complaints of pain.
The fifth victim, Cassie, 12, was initially trapped in the vehicle before being transported by medical helicopter to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis for additional evaluation. All injuries are believed to be be non-life threatening.
The driver of the other care involved, Davis was not injured in the accident but appeared to be intoxicated.
Davis was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he agreed to take a blood test.
A Drug Recognition Expert with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department evaluated Davis before Indiana State Police arrested him for intoxicated driving.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police had also received multiple reports of Davis’ vehicle driving erratically prior to the crash occurring.
Davis was charged with operating while intoxicated. The charges are pending with the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office.
The right lane of I-65 was closed for about an hour and a half while emergency crews investigated the accident and cleared the scene.
