LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police's (LMPD) Traffic Unit is investigating a crash on Bardstown Road that left one person dead and two others injured on Friday.
Authorities said officers responded to a crash on Bardstown Road at Bardstown Ralls Road around 1:10 p.m.
In their preliminary investigation and according to witness statements, a driver was traveling fast heading north on Bardstown Road when it collided with an SUV with two people inside. They were trying to turn out of Bardstown Falls Road.
The impact caused debris to go everywhere and for the cars to be spread across both northbound and southbound lanes of Bardstown Road investigators said.
First responders from EMS and Fern Creek Fire responded to the scene police said. Firefighters helped the driver get out of the SUV, and the driver in the other vehicle got out without help.
The passenger in the SUV, a woman, died at the scene authorities said.
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 77-year-old Myrtle Wacker.
EMS transported both men to the hospital; the man from the SUV is considered to have serious injuries, and the other man is expected to survive according to investigators.
Louisville Metro EMS said all lanes of Bardstown Road south of Fairmount Road are reopened.
