4 students taken to hospital after Breckinridge County School District bus crashes

Kentucky State Police said after cresting a hill, Gilbert Edlin's vehicle crossed into the path of the bus and struck it head-on.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four students in Breckinridge County were taken to the hospital after their school bus was involved in a head-on collision on Monday.

Breckinridge County School District Superintendent Nick Carter said the crash happened around 3:20 p.m. Central time on Rosetta Corners Road, off Highway 86, in Irvington, Kentucky.

The students were treated for minor injuries as a precaution and released shortly after arriving according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP Trooper Scotty Sharp said the bus crashed into a small pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Gilbert Edlin. Authorities said after cresting a hill, Edlin's vehicle crossed into the path of the bus and struck it head-on.

Edlin was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition as of Tuesday morning is unknown at this time.

According to KSP, 31 students were on board the bus at the time of the crash. The 61-year-old driver was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by KSP.
