LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drivers crossing the Ohio River between downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville will need to find an alternative route Wednesday night.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advised drivers to be aware of an overnight closure on July 24. The bridge will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 7 p.m. and midnight.

Crews will work to "inspect, repair and update decorative lighting along the bridge," officials said.

"The updated decorative lighting will enhance the aesthetic appeal of the historic bridge while also improving visibility for motorists and pedestrians," KYTC said. "The full nighttime closure of the bridge is necessary to accommodate lift trucks and other equipment."

According to KYTC, the suggested detour route for drivers looking to get into southern Indiana is by taking either the Sherman Minton Bridge (I-64) or the Lincoln and Kennedy toll bridges (I-65).

The Clark Memorial Bridge carries U.S. 31 across the Ohio River between Kentucky and southern Indiana.
