LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Clark Memorial Bridge will only have one lane open Thursday while crews work on repairs after the dramatic semi truck crash and rescue a few weeks ago.
Officials say the bridge will be restricted to one southbound lane from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Currently, the bridge is southbound-only traffic from Indiana to downtown Louisville.
This lane closure is happening so crews can deliver sidewalk beams to complete repairs. Once the beams are delivered, the lane will reopen again.
Repairs the the bridge began on March 20, just weeks after an accident caused a semi to dangle on the side of the bridge. The incident left the 95-year-old bridge with damage to the sidewalk and railing.
Repairs to the Second Street Bridge include replacing steel beams and sidewalk railing, repairing sidewalk structure, utility repairs and paint touch-ups.
Drivers needing to travel northbound to southern Indiana are urged to use alternate routes – Sherman Minton (I-64 West) or the Lincoln Bridge (I-65).
Work on the Clark Memorial Bridge is expected to wrap up in mid-April, in time for Thunder Over Louisville.
