Driver charged with murder after fatal crash on Clark Memorial Bridge

The driver's blood-alcohol levels were above the legal limit, according to arrest records.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man was charged with murder after a deadly collision on the Clark Memorial Bridge.

According to Metro Police, their First Division officers responded to the bridge following reports of the crash around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.

LMPD’s preliminary investigation suggests a vehicle headed southbound on the bridge when for some unknown reason the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking a steel support beam.

Police said 21-year-old Mackenzie Carpenter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died from her injuries at the scene. 

Trenton C. Davis, who was driving, was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Louisville Fire.

He was was taken to UofL Hospital my EMS in critical condition. 

A paramedic at the hospital told LMPD Detective Raymond Wonka that Davis smelled strongly of alcohol while being treated for his injuries.

Detective  Wonka obtained a search warrant for blood and urine samples that were taken for treatment at UofL Hospital as well as a copy of the toxicology report. The report revealed a BAC of .095.
