Fiery crash shuts down I-65 South at Jefferson Street

This is the second crash of the day that has shut down the interstate involving a semi.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities have closed a portion of I-65 South near the Kennedy Bridge following a fiery crash.

The single-vehicle crash involving the semi happened at mile-marker 136.6 just past the Kennedy Bridge Saturday evening, according to MetroSafe.

Currently the left shoulder, all lanes and the right shoulder are blocked.

The Louisville Fire Department is on the scene and working to put out that fire.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.

This marks the second crash on I-65 on Saturday. Earlier in the day, a semi crash caused lanes near the Kennedy Bridge to shut down after the semi's load spilled onto the roadway.

LMPD is encouraging motorists to find alternate routes if traveling from southern Indiana.

They said access to I-64 East and I-71 North from I-65 South will be opened soon, but southbound traffic will be closed for a while.
