LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville drivers can breathe a sigh of relief for the second week in a row as gas prices continued to drop last week.

Average gasoline prices in Louisville have gone down 9.2 cents per gallon last week, averaging $3.36 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 644 stations across Louisville. The cost of gas also decreased by 7.2 cents the week prior.

The prices are 16.5 cents lower per gallon compared to a month ago and are 38.8 cents lower compared to a year ago. The cheapest station in Louisville on Sunday was about $2.89 a gallon, while the most expensive was priced at $3.99.

The national average has fallen about 3.2 cents per gallon last week to $3.41. The national average for diesel fuel has fallen 3.4 cents to $3.72.

"As summer driving season comes to a gradual close, we continue to see gasoline prices declining in most of the country as demand remains muted. Incredibly, the drop has also caused diesel fuel prices to crumble to their lowest level since before Russia's invasion of Ukraine," Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said.

"As long as we can avoid a major hurricane threatening refineries in the Gulf region, I believe we could see declines continue into this week, with the national average potentially dipping to its lowest level of the summer. However, should economic data come in better than expected, there still could be a short-lived rally. While some states may also see gas prices rise to routine price cycling, primarily in the Great Lakes and Florida, prices across the board remain lower in every state compared to a year ago."

Statewide, the lowest price on Sunday was $2.74 while the highest was about $3.99.
