Fatal motorcycle crash shuts down I-64 in Louisville; man ejected fell 30 feet onto parking lot

Police said the man's bike continued about another 250 feet before stopping.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All lanes are blocked on Interstate 64 west in downtown Louisville after a fatal crash involving a motorcycle happened Tuesday afternoon.

According to Louisville Metro Police (LMPD), officers were called to I-64 just west of the 9th Street exit ramp around 3:10 p.m. on reports of an incident involving a motorcycle.

Authorities' initial investigation and witness statements revealed three motorcycles were speeding when one of the drivers lost control of his bike, hit the concrete barrier and fell about 30 feet to a nearby parking lot near the Frazier Museum.

Police said the man's bike continued about another 250 feet before stopping.

Medical professionals pronounced the man dead at the scene.

LMPD said the other motorcyclists remained on the scene and were cooperating with their Traffic Unit.

The roadway is expected to reopen around 5:15 p.m. according to police.
