Downtown Louisville interstate shut down Tuesday morning due to jack-knifed semi

LMPD officials say the ramp from I-65 North to I-64 West is also currently blocked.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — I-65 South is shut down Tuesday morning near the Kennedy Bridge in Downtown Louisville. The ramp from I-65 North to I-64 West is also currently blocked.

At about 3:30 a.m., LMPD responded to a crash involving a semi-truck on I-65 South, just south of the Kennedy Bridge, according to an LMPD news release.

Officers on scene found a single vehicle collision involving a semi-tractor trailer that had jack-knifed and a portion of the cab had come to rest on the side of the retaining wall.

The driver, an adult man, was able to get out safely and was speaking to officers. Authorities say the man was not injured.

LMPD’s First Division is investigating this collision. The cause of the collision is unknown.

I-65 South just past the Kennedy Bridge is shut down and will be for part of the morning rush, LMPD officials say. There is a large amount of diesel fuel that needs to be cleaned up once the vehicle is removed. Both saddle tanks came off the truck when it jack-knifed.

The ramp from 65 North to I-64 West is currently blocked as well due to some debris and diesel fuel that came from the roadway above.

Police are advising motorists to slow down and avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

We will update this story with more information as we learn more.
