Two lanes of I-65S reopen to traffic after multi-vehicle crash in Hardin County

A semi hit an abandoned car and broke the cable barrier, sending debris into southbound lanes and hitting another car on I-65 Thursday morning.

HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. — Two southbound lanes of Interstate 65 have reopened after a crash in Hardin County involving several vehicles Thursday morning.

Drivers are urged to find an alternate route to avoid the backed up traffic.

Kentucky State Police say a northbound semi hit an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road early and the force of the collision broke the cable barrier, sending the barrier into the southbound lanes, where it then hit an oncoming car. A second semi was also hit in the crash.

No injuries have been reported at this time, but KSP says a lot of aluminum is in the road, so all southbound lanes have been shut down while crews clean up the debris. Traffic cameras show a large backup in those lanes.

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say that the clearing is expected to take 2-3 hours. Detour signs are posted at Exit 102 to KY 351 to US 31W Bypass to WKY Parkway to I-65.
