LMPD said officers responded to reports of a collision at 7th Street and Algonquin Parkway around 4:50 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police's (LMPD) interim chief rendered aid to a driver Monday afternoon after being involved in a wreck.

LMPD said officers responded to reports of a collision at 7th Street and Algonquin Parkway around 4:50 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found an unmarked LMPD Tahoe and a pick-up truck had collided. Their initial investigation revealed the driver of the pick-up truck was traveling north on 7th Street and entered the intersection at Algonquin Parkway.

While driving, police said she had a medical emergency and hit the unmarked police vehicle head-on that was south on 7th Street and waiting to turn onto Algonquin Parkway eastbound.

Chief Paul Humphrey was driving the Tahoe.

Authorities said Humphrey rendered aid until EMS arrived to take her to the hospital, where she is expected to survive.

Investigators said the interim chief wasn't injured in the crash.

LMPD is investigating.
