JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Two southern Indiana high school students are recovering after they were involved in a traffic accident near school on Wednesday, shortly after dismissal.

At about 2:30 p.m., Jeffersonville Police Department responded to an accident involving two high school students on Allison Lane near Jeffersonville High School.

While a pedestrian, who is a Jeffersonville student, was attempting to cross Allison Lane, she believed traffic had stopped and ran across the street in an area outside of a crosswalk, according to a Jeffersonville Police news release.

A car in the far lane struck the pedestrian. Police say her injuries were minor and she's expected to make a full recovery.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident is also a high school student. Police say both parties were cooperative and the department's Traffic Crash Investigation Team is calling this an "unfortunate accident."

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind all students, and urge parents to speak with their children, about traffic safety. Cross the street at crosswalks, intersections, and utilize traffic control devices, especially those that aid in pedestrian crossing such as pedestrian push buttons," Jeffersonville Police said in a news release.
