LMPD investigates after driver crashes stolen truck into JCPS bus then flees on foot

Police said a person was in a stolen vehicle when they crashed into a bus containing kids from Maupin Elementary on South 11th Street Tuesday evening.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro Police are looking for a suspect after a hit-and-run that also involved a Jefferson County Public Schools bus.

LMPD said the initial call to the area on South 11th Street between Broadway and Chestnut Street around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday was for a reported shooting.

No shooting victim was located, however, police found JCPS bus No. 1830 that had been struck by a black pickup truck.

Officers said the driver of the truck had fled on foot after hitting the bus and was not found.

LMPD searched the area, but were told by witnesses the pickup truck may have been nearby when reports of shots being fired and the pickup fled, hitting the bus.

Police did not find a shooting scene but said the pickup had been reported stolen.

Nine students from Maupin Elementary were on board at the time of the hit-and-run.

No injuries were reported.
