LOUISVILLE, Ky. — You will soon pay a little more for parking violations in Louisville.
The Parking Authority of River City (PARC) is raising rates for the first time in over 30 years, the organization announced Tuesday. Starting April 1, $25 citations will increase to $30.
PARC will immediately begin issuing notices to current violators.
The rate increase only applies to drivers who do not comply with regulations, including parking at an expired meter or parking in an area that is designated as no parking, such as a bus zone or blocking a fire hydrant. Additionally, citations will no longer be discounted if paid within seven days.
PARC utilized studies from other contracted parking vendors to compare best practices before making this change. Citation rates were compared to peer cites of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Lexington, Columbus, Nashville, Indianapolis and Atlanta.
The comparison found Metro's parking citation rates were "consistently lower" than those cities. None of those cities offered discounts for paying within seven days.
According to a PARC news release, 42% of people who reveiced a citation in 2023 paid within seven days. The elimination of the discount and $5 increase could lead to $500,000 in additional annual revenue for Metro.
