REMINDER: Sherman Minton Bridge closed Friday to Monday

Eastbound lanes will be closed starting Friday night at 10 and will reopen Monday morning at 5.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As part of the Sherman Minton Renewal Project, part of the Sherman Minton Bridge will be closed this weekend.

Starting Friday, May 13 at 10 p.m. Eastbound I-64 will be closed. That portion of the bridge won't open back up until 5 a.m. Monday morning on May 16.

The suggested alternate route is to take I-265 and I-65.

According to a tweet from the Sherman Minton Renewal Project, the first new concrete on the lower deck of the bridge will be poured this weekend.

The Sherman Minton Renewal is a major bridge restoration and painting project meant to extend the life of the 59-year-old bridge.

According to the Sherman Minton Renewal Project website, the project includes "replacement or refurbishment of all bridge decks, rehabilitation or replacement of structural steel elements and hanger cables, installation of new lighting, repairs to drainage, and painting of the steel components."

Those long-term repairs being made will reportedly add up to 30 years of life to the bridge.
