LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In a late-night update on Tuesday, officials announced when they plan to reopen the Sherman Minton Bridge.
According to the Sherman Minton Renewal Team, transportation officials from Kentucky and Indiana as well as the design-build contractor said the bridge will reopen on Wednesday.
It is unclear at what time. A spokesperson said the bridge will be open with two lanes open in each direction during the day, but the contractor has the option to use lane closures at night.
Royce Meredith, a program manager with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said crews and engineers "will work through the night to reopen a safe and sound bridge for travelers."
An immediate closure of the bridge happened on Friday when crews found some beams out of alignment.
Officials said the problem was contained to two beams within one of the spans on the bridge.
