Here's what streets will be closed for the 68th annual St. James Court Art Show

It's common for the three-day event, always held on the first weekend in October, to attract thousands of people from all over the U.S.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Around 600 artists are expected to set up shop in historic Old Louisville for the 68th annual St. James Court Art Show happening Oct. 4 through Oct. 6.

The art show originally started "as a way to pay the bills," but it has, in time, transformed into a nationally-renowned autumn ritual. It's common for the three-day event, always held on the first weekend in October, to attract thousands of people from all over the U.S.

Here are what streets Louisville Metro Police will be closing in preparation for the event.

Starting Wednesday at 7 a.m., the following streets will be closed:

  • Saint James Court from Magnolia Street to Hill Street
  • Magnolia Street from 3rd Street to 6th Street

Then on Thursday at 7 a.m., these streets will be closed:

  • Alley between 3rd and 4th Streets from Park Street to Hill Street
  • Alley between 4th Street and St. James Court from Magnolia Street to Hill Street
  • R Chin Alley from 6th Street to Hill Street
  • Gaulbert Avenue from 3rd Street to 4th Street
  • 4th Street from Park Avenue to Hill Street

All of the above-named streets are scheduled to reopen around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Starting on Thursday at 7 a.m., parking will be prohibited on the following streets until 9 p.m. on Sunday.

  • South side of Park Avenue from 4th Street to 6th Street
  • Gaulbert Avenue from 3rd Street to Fourth Street

The following streets can't be parked on starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday until Sunday at 11:30 p.m.:

  • Saint James Court from Magnolia Street to Hill Street
  • Magnolia Street from 3rd Street to 6th Street

No parking is allowed from 7 a.m. Thursday to 10 p.m. on Sunday at the following streets:

  • Magnolia Street from 3rd Street to Levering Street
  • Third Street from Park Avenue to Hill Street
  • 3rd Street from Burnett Magnolia to Hill Street
  • 4th Street from Park Avenue to Hill Street
  • 6th Street from Park Avenue to Hill Street
  • Hill Street from 3rd Street to 6th Street

Drivers cannot park on the following streets from 7 a.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. on Sunday:

  • Hill Street from 2nd Street to 6th Street
  • 4th Street (east side) from Hill Street to Gaulbert Avenue

Handicapped parking

The north side of Hill Street from 2nd Street to 6th Street will be restricted for handicapped parking from 10 a.m. on Friday until 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The north lanes of Hill Street between 3rd Street and St. James Court will be handicapped parking from 9 a.m. on Friday to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Finally, the east side of 6th Street near Magnolia Street along Central Park will also be handicapped parking from 8 a.m. on Thursday to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
