According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the vehicle overturned and lost its load while traveling on I-65 early Saturday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lanes of I-65 South on the Kennedy Bridge are back open following an early morning crash involving a semitruck.

According to Louisville Metro Police, a semi overturned near the Jefferson Street ramp.

Because of the crash, its load spilled onto the interstate along with significant amount of hazardous materials (fuel and oil). It also spilled some onto the I-64/I-71 North ramp below.

The driver had to be removed from the semi and taken to the hospital.

The extent of his injuries are unknown but he is expected to survive.

The interstate was closed for seven hours while crews cleaned up the scene.

It’s unclear what caused the semi to crash.
