Semi-cab catches fire after hitting object on I-71, authorities say

The cab of a semi caught fire on I-71 after hitting an object, also causing it to spill nearly 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A stretch of roadway on I-71 North was blocked after a semi-cab caught fire.

The incident was reported just after 6:30 p.m. near the 5.7 mile marker past the I-64 interchange on Monday.

According to Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS spokesperson Jordan Yuodis, a tractor-trailer hit an object in the roadway, causing it to start smoking. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle unharmed.

The incident caused nearly 100 gallons of diesel fuel to leak from the cab.

Yuodis said the leak has been contained within a “100 to 150-foot stretch of the ditch line.”

The trailer was carrying Cool Ranch Doritos but was not impacted by the fire.

Traffic is still slow in the area and the left lane is open for traffic.
