LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you regularly cross the Ohio River between Louisville and southern Indiana, expect some delays on two of the major bridges connecting Kentuckiana next week.
The Sherman Minton will begin a nine-day closure of westbound lanes on Monday, Aug. 5 at 5 a.m. The lanes will reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 5 a.m.
During the closure, the I-64 westbound exit ramp to Elm Street (Exit 123) will be closed as well.
Eastbound lanes from Indiana to Kentucky will remain open, however.
Crews will be working on cable hanger work and other construction activities, according to officials.
The suggested alternative route for drivers is to take I-65 North on the Lincoln Bridge or I-265 on the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Both options are toll bridges.
But that's not the only bridge experiencing lane closures next week.
Daily lane closures begin on the Kennedy Bridge, which carries I-65 South from Indiana into Kentucky, on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well. Those lane closures will continue through Friday, Aug. 9.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, crews will be doing a regular inspection of the bridge.
Drivers are advised to heed signage around both bridges notifying them of the various lane closures.
