Louisville transit service plans to hire 75 new employees by end of June

The transit service said it was planning to hire coach operators and "A" mechanics by the end of June this year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Transit Authority of the River City (TARC) is "aggressively" recruiting candidates for immediate openings in its transportation and maintenance departments.

A TARC spokesperson said the transit service is looking to hire 75 new employees by the end of June this year. They said this comes amid rising demand for flexible and reliable transportation in the Metro.

The company recently said that it had lost 11% of its entire workforce due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

Now, the company is looking to hire 50 new Coach Operators and several experienced "A" mechanics to service its fleet of more than 370 buses and support vehicles.

Starting pay for coach operators is $17.41 an hour and may go up to $24 an hour. Applicants for this position need to be at least 21 years old.

As for "A" Mechanics, the starting rate is $25.01 an hour and applicants need to be at least 18 years of age and have prior experience.

The spokesperson said the company offers competitive pay and benefits packages including paid holidays and sick leave.
