Temperatures reached 102 degrees in Louisville Thursday. It was the hottest day on record since 2012.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thursday was the hottest day Louisville, Kentucky, experienced in over a decade.

The temperature reached 102 degrees at about 4 p.m. at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Thursday was the warmest day in the city since 2012.

The high of 102 smashed the previous record high of 99 set in 1953. The average high temperature this time of year is 87.

Louisville was one of the hottest areas of the country on Thursday, and warmer than some areas of Texas and Florida.

"The only silver lining is the humidity could be a lot worse," WHAS11 Chief Meteorologist Ben Pine said.

The humidity was relatively low Thursday and sat at 27% at 5 p.m.

The heat wave will last one more day before subsiding this weekend. Friday's high is forecasted to be 98 before dropping into the 80s by Saturday.

"I hope it's the last heat wave, but we know the 90s can hang around all the way into October," Pine said.

Historical data

Thursday was the first time Louisville experienced a 100-degree day since 2022, according to data from the National Weather Service. That year saw two days in triple digits.

Before then, you have to go all the way back to 2012 to see temperatures of 100 or above. Louisville saw a whopping 10 days that year in the 100s.

The only year with more days of 100 or above was 1936 when there were 16. July 14 of that year saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in the Derby City: a sizzling 107 degrees.
