Futurecast Timeline
Here's a look hour-by-hour as the system rolls through the WHAS11 viewing area.
Primary timing for severe weather is between the hours of 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Latest timing of storms
Most of Thursday night's storms will move out of our area by sunrise Friday morning. By that point, the cold front will pass through and the risk for severe weather, or any sort of storms, will come to a close.
Expect Friday to be gloomy through much of the morning and midday hours with temperatures in the 60s as opposed to the 70s.
Weather threats
As the storm system moves in late Thursday, it will drag in a chance for locally heavy rain up to a half inch to an inch per hour rainfall rates, hail up to quarter size, wind gusts between 50-60 mph and the possibility of an isolated tornado.
An isolated risk for a tornado is most likely to occur in areas north of I-64.
Overall though, the severe weather risk is low with this storm system but make sure you have a means to get the latest severe weather alerts from the First Alert StormTeam by downloading the free WHAS11 News app. For Apple or Android users.
Cooler days ahead
Just in time for the final days of winter, a blast of rather cold air for mid-March is in the works for the Ohio River Valley and and eastern tier of the United States.
Any sort of light snow or wintry mix will stay well to our northeast, which is good news for non-winter fans.
In the meantime, temperatures are the main focus for our area. After spending this week sunny and 70°, Monday and Tuesday's cold blast will be a shock to the system.
Low temperatures will swing into the 20s and 30s with high temperatures in the middle to upper 40s.
