LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky counties around the Louisville Metro area are still under a moderate drought, according to data released on Sept. 19.
The U.S. Drought Monitor releases a weekly map showing where drought is and how bad it is across the country and its territories.
Portions of Shelby, Trimble and Franklin Counties are under a severe drought.
According to the National Weather Service, Louisville saw 0.99 inches of rain in August, much lower than the 3.33 average for the month.
July brought 5.91 inches of rain, but just 1.78 inches fell in June.
Widespread showers are expected to move through the area beginning around 4 p.m. Monday with embedded thunderstorms.
Rain could be heavy at times and could impact the evening commute.
