LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A storm system will enter the Ohio River Valley and all of central Kentucky and southern Indiana this week. Severe weather chances remain very low but we are tracking the possibility of a few brief strong wind gusts and locally heavy rain.
Rainfall rates are expected to reach 0.50 to 1 inch per hour Tuesday afternoon and again on Wednesday.
There will be enough humidity and daytime heating to touch off on isolated to at times scattered thunderstorms. Luckily, our atmosphere will be lacking the energy and ingredients for storms to turn severe. Just grab the umbrella as you step out the door for the afternoon and evening!
Timing
Both the mid to late afternoon hours Tuesday and Wednesday have the highest percentage of storm chances in central Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Most of the activity will come to a close and will trail off by the time the sunset hour arrives. Likely, leaving us dry overnight both tonight and again Wednesday night.
Futurecast midweek rainfall
Most locations will pick up a solid 0.25-0.50 inch of rainfall but some higher totals are in the forecast outside of Metro Louisville.
Right now, model forecasts bring in the highest rainfall tallies from Columbia, to Campbellsville, to Bardstown. Thus, a half inch to inch of rain is most likely for those of you south of the Bluegrass Parkway.
After the storms
We can take a nice deep breath after the cold front passes Wednesday evening. Once the front passes, temperatures will fall a touch with much more comfortable humidity levels also in the works for us!
There are several weekend events going on around Metro Louisville and our weather generally supports getting out and enjoying them.
A few showers may linger into early to mid next week but no major storm systems are on the horizon.
Most important: No severe weather is in the forecast. Get out and enjoy this comfortable and dry set up Kentuckians and Hoosiers!
