LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It is hard not to notice the humidity in the air. Dew points are in the upper 60s and lower 70s, making it feel quite tropical outside. It is hot too, with high temperatures topping out in the middle 80s.
This is all ahead of scattered showers and thunderstorms that will push into Kentucky and Indiana through Wednesday evening. Storms will favor areas south of I-64, primarily during the evening commute.
The bulk of the activity will move out before sunset.
Thunderstorms are not expected to become severe, but one or two could be on the strong side. The primary hazard will be the torrential downpours within the storms that could lead to localized flash flooding. Remember never to drive through flooded roads, 1-2 inches of water is enough to stall out and wash away a vehicle, and it only takes 6 inches to sweep someone off their feet.
In addition to heavy rainfall, storms will likely contain gusty wind and frequent lightning. Be sure to stay weather aware and remain sheltered until the storm has passed.
Rainfall totals will be highest south of the Bluegrass Parkways, where over 1 inch is likely by the time all is said and done. Keep in mind that a slower moving storm could bring locally higher amounts.
The storm system is ahead of a cold front that will result in a beautiful end to the work week! We can look forward to a dry stretch of weather with lower heat and humidity Thursday through Saturday.
