Milton community continuing clean-up efforts after tornado ripped through small town

Angie Handlon was on her couch watching the news when the powerful wind touched down. Moments later a large branch landed on her home.

TRIMBLE COUNTY, Ky. — Residents in little Milton, Kentucky were startled when a catastrophic tornado made it's way through the Ohio River town late Thursday night.

Angie Handlon was on her couch watching the news when the powerful wind touched down.

"I look out the window and I see this big, white, grey looking puff and everything started shaking and trees started flying," she said.

All of a sudden a large tree branch landed on her home.

"I just went down and I started praying, I was scared," Handlon said.

Up to 100 homes were damaged and neighbors have started helping each other clean up. Tree limbs and debris were blown everywhere.

"The fire department has brought drinks down, food down, people has offered places to live," Handlon said.

The winds were so heavy it blew an RV feet away and flipped it upside down.

The tornado left many families displaced, like one Bedford family currently staying at the General Butler State Resort Park.

"The lights went out and then, boom, it starts raining and everything," Tiffany Law said.

Her fiancé, Anthony Scott, and children said they could be out of power for a week.

"We're out of electric, pretty much we're getting ready to lose all of our food in our freezers," Scott said.

Luckily, the resort has accommodated their family and 30 others who have been affected.

Scott said his prayers go out to "all the families who's been impacted, our hearts are out with them."

In the meantime, the American Red Cross will be assessing damage over the next couple of days.
