LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several school districts and colleges across central Kentucky and southern Indiana are closing early or cancelling after-school activities Wednesday due to the threat of severe weather.
Louisville and surrounding counties are under a severe weather risk level 2 or 3 while parts of central and western Kentucky are at a risk level 3 or 4. The farther to the southwest you live in Kentucky, the higher the likelihood of seeing severe storms.
Greater Clark County Schools announced Wednesday all after-school and evening practices, events and activities are cancelled due to the weather forecasts.
Western Kentucky University closed at noon Central Time on Wednesday due to the potentially severe weather.
As of 1:30 p.m., Jefferson County Public Schools officials said they were continuing to assess the situation and haven't made a decision on whether or not to cancel after-school activities. JCPS did cancel activities on Tuesday due to severe weather.
Hardin County schools in Elizabethtown, Kentucky is dismissing one hour early due to the storms.
The Washington County Schools in Springfield, Kentucky announced its schools are closing at 1:30 p.m. to avoid severe weather.
