LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of people are waking up without power in Louisville Friday morning after severe weather caused power outages in Jefferson County as well as surrounding Kentucky counties.
A total of 1,300 LG&E customers are currently without power after at least one tornado tore through Milton, Kentucky and severe weather caused damage to other counties in Kentucky.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, over 50 people are estimated to be without power in Jefferson County. At one point Thursday night, there were approximately 600 households in Louisville experiencing power outages.
The Kentucky county with the most power outages Friday morning is Trimble County with over 1,000 customers without power. Trimble County is where Milton is located, where the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down.
LG&E released a statement on Thursday to its customers in Carroll, Trimble and Gallatin counties, saying crews are responding as safely and quickly as possible to outages caused by a tornado and severe weather and they expect most people to have power by Friday afternoon.
"Based on initial assessments, the damage in your area is extensive and we expect service to be restored to most customers tomorrow afternoon. We'll continue to update estimated restoration times here based on feedback from our crews on site. Please be safe and thank you for your patience," LG&E said.
