Rainfall may be heavy and amount to 0.50-1.00" for Louisville and many spots along the Ohio River.

When rain will hit our area

Thursday's showers and storms are expected to hit the Louisville area in the midday, afternoon and early evening hours.

Most cities will receive light to moderate rainfall initially, though a line of thunderstorms is expected to come from the north between noon and 5 p.m.

Thankfully, the thunderstorms don't appear to be severe and aren't expected to create much damage. The heavy rain; however, may waterlog streets and sidewalks in areas that normally see flooding during rainfall.

How much rain will we get?

Rain accumulation will range between 0.25-0.50 inches for most spots north of I-64, with several locations along and south of the Ohio River recording a half inch to an inch of rain by Thursday evening.

These storms will have the capability of producing some heavy rain in a quick amount of time and some lightning. Make sure you slow down when driving, especially on your afternoon commute home from work.

As the sun sets on Thursday, the storm system will fizzle out and we should expect a dry evening and no additional rain overnight.

Weekend weather

The Louisville area may see some winter weather Saturday morning. Don't be surprised if you see a few flurries as you wake up and take a sip of some hot chocolate or coffee to kick off your weekend.

Be sure to bundle up! Temperatures are expected to drop to the upper 20s and lower 30s in the morning. Wind chill temperatures may briefly brush into the teens.

Accumulation will be extremely light as ground temperatures will be too warm for much snow to stick. By mid-morning on Saturday, much of the snow will be melted.

The good news for warm weather fans is that high temperatures will be back in the upper 50s and 60s for Sunday, with warmer days on tap into next week.
