LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Our weather pattern is about to become more active with showers and thunderstorms returning to the area soon, and unfortunately possibly impacting our July Fourth holiday.
It's sort of a good news / bad news situation, as we need the rainfall, but just don't want it during our outdoor celebrations. So, let's time out the storm chances, rainfall totals, and look at how this could help our drought conditions across Kentuckiana.
FUTURECAST
This afternoon and evening storms begin to fire up, with torrential rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning possible.
While there will be breaks in the storm chances, more rounds of rainfall are expected for our July Fourth morning.
However, notice we are hoping for drier conditions for July 4th afternoon and evening. So, we have a decent chance of mostly dry conditions for the fireworks celebrations Thursday night.
The overall severe weather threat will stay pretty low, with isolated damaging winds the main issue Wednesday and Thursday.
RAINFALL POTENTIAL
Our area is still pretty desperate for rainfall, as we only had 1.78" of rainfall since June 1st, a 2.76" rainfall deficit. Much of Southern Indiana is now in a Moderate Drought, with parts of Kentucky Abnormally Dry. Beneficial rain totals of over an inch is certainly possibly Wednesday through Friday.
DROUGHT STATUS
WEEKEND FORECAST
If you have an extended holiday weekend, your outdoors plans will be in good shape with dry conditions and more comfortable weather on the way for Saturday and Sunday. After tropical air through Thursday, humidity levels will be dropping this weekend.
