LOUISVILLE, Ky. — LG&E is working to restore power to thousands of Kentuckians after severe weather and deadly tornadoes hit the state overnight Friday.
As of 9:15 a.m. LG&E reports more than 17,000 of its customers are currently without power.
It's unclear how long it will take for all of their customers to see their power back on, but the electric provider reminded customers on Twitter to avoid any downed powerlines.
"Always assume any down wire is energized and call us immediately," the company said.
LG&E customers can report downed lines by calling 502-589-1444 or 800-331-7370 (fast path 1-1-2).
KU/ODP customers can call 800-981-0600 (fast path 1-1).
In Louisville, Public Works crews have been working to clear roads of debris and fallen power lines.
Public Works told WHAS11 News that crews have responded to four calls of downed trees blocking roadways.
Two of the incidents, at 775 St. Anthony Church Road and at 2700 Holly Park Drive Apartments, have yet to be cleared due to the fallen trees being intertwined with power lines.
LG&E will need to turn off the power to those wires before a Public Works contractor can remove the trees.
