Tropical Wave heading to southeastern United States; What to expect

This week we saw the first named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Alberto. Another may be on the way.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It is the middle of June and the tropics is starting to heat up! We already had our first named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Alberto, and now there's a chance we could get our second.

There is a tropical wave about 300 miles off the east coast of Florida. It does not have a closed area of circulation just yet but thunderstorm activity is blossoming in the core of the system. That is a sign of further development.

The good news that if it does development, all of the models show a weaker storm. The impacts will likely just be rain along the coast with a few stronger gusts. Minimal to no impacts expected. The area of target is between Jacksonville and Charleston.

There is a second tropical wave that could develop in the Gulf of Mexico, over the Bay of Campeche. This could bring similar impacts to Mexico as Alberto did this past week. We will be keeping our eyes on the tropics!
