LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just in time to combat our major month-to-date rainfall deficit, a swath of rain will march in and will bring a sloppy, wet forecast for Halloween Day. Unfortunately, the timing of the rain will occur in the afternoon and evening hours as trick-or-treaters will get out the door to celebrate.
The Weather Impact Team has declared a Weather Impact Alert Day for rounds of rain (moderate to heavy at times) for the daytime and nighttime hours on Halloween. Some ponding of water will be likely because our soil is as dry as can be for this time of year. Only 0.05 inches of rain has fallen so far this month! That is upwards of 3 to 3.50 inches below normal.
The chance for severe weather is very low but the rain will make for steady to heavy rainfall at times. The rain will most likely reach the westernmost spots of central Kentucky and southern Indiana by the lunch hour and early afternoon. Then, the band of rain will inch into Louisville and spots east of there by the mid-afternoon and beyond.
Expect the rain showers to come to a close by the 10 p.m. hour on Halloween. A stray shower may impact our far eastern counties Friday morning, but the majority of us will stay dry and rather cool to end the week.
The trick-or-treat forecast luckily looks mild but it will be wet. Grab the umbrella getting out the door! The little ghost and goblins will certainly need the umbrella or rain poncho.
