LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A more "active" pattern is coming to our area as better chances for rainfall are in the forecast beginning Tuesday night and extending into hump day. The forecast calls for one to two inches of rain (especially along and southwest of Louisville) along with some routine chances for thunder.
Therefore, a Weather Impact Alert Day is issued for much of Wednesday morning. Keep in mind, the only concern will be for ponding of water on the roads. The flooding risk and overall severe weather risk is very low.
Futurecast
The scattered to widespread showers and storms will march in from west to east overnight Tuesday night and will stick around through Wednesday morning. The timeframe with the heaviest rain will likely be from 12 AM to about 5 AM. Roadways will be wet so make sure you take it easy and slow down with travel for Wednesday's morning rush hour commute.
We are not tracking any severe weather with the incoming storm system. Just keep in mind that heavy rainfall tallies may lead to ponding of water on roadways.
How much rainfall?
Mother Nature will be picking up the slack from the abnormally dry October that we experienced. Some pockets of a one to two inches are in the forecast Wednesday morning through the early afternoon hours. Keep in mind, the focus for rain midday and into the early afternoon will be isolated and will stick to locations mainly east of our area.
Conditions will mainly dry out for the mid to late afternoon hours Wednesday. A few more showers will develop Wednesday night and through Thursday morning but the chances for rain decrease tremendously. In conclusion, only about a 20% chance of rain is in the forecast on Thursday as opposed to Wednesday morning which has an 80% chance.
Stay tuned to us as a few more chances for rain come our way into the weekend. We are beginning to transition from the abnormally dry weather pattern to a more wet pattern for mid to late Fall and beyond.
