LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A WHAS11 Weather Impact Alert Day has been called for Friday due to storm chances and heavy rainfall expected in Louisville.
Louisville and several other communities across our area range from over an inch of rain below normal this month. In fact, Louisville recently went 10 straight days without rainfall. Expect Mother Nature to make up for the lost rainfall as we take a look at the end of the week.
A much more significant storm system will clip the Ohio Valley and will make for isolated to scattered strong to severe storms Thursday night through Friday afternoon. The main threats with the storms will be for strong wind gusts and some locally heavy rainfall.
Timing
As the low pressure nears, a steady warm front will bring in the chance for storms in the early morning hours Friday.
As mentioned, storms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall with them and isolated strong wind gusts. Some of the showers and storms will impact us Friday morning before we expect a brief break in the storms midday and early afternoon on Friday.
Right now, is looks unlikely that Friday afternoon and Friday evening will be stormy but there is still potential for a few hit or miss storms as we begin to close out the week. We will keep you posted if storms re-ignite along the passing cold front Friday afternoon.
Again, the risk for a tornado or hail are very low but there is still a minor chance. Make sure you download the WHAS11 New App to get the latest forecast, radar and hour by hour forecasts from the WHAS11 Weather Impact Team.
This Weekend: Drying Out
