LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The WHAS11 Impact Weather Team has issued an alert day for today and Monday as showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the majority of central Kentucky and southern Indiana at times.

Neither today or Monday will be complete washouts and you will still have plenty of dry time. Severe weather is also not expected, but if you have outdoor plans either day you will want to locate the nearest shelter before the storms arrive.

Timing

Storms are beginning to push in from the west and producing quite a bit of lightning and heavy rainfall.

Storms will arrive west of I-65 shortly before the lunch time hour and push to the east with time. Expect the heavy rainfall, wind and lightning along the I-65 corridor (to include Metro Louisville) between 12-2pm then continue traveling toward our eastern counties. The majority of the activity will be long gone by sunset Sunday night.

Monday looks like a near repeat of what we will see Sunday morning and early afternoon. Temperatures both days will be in the middle 80s with high humidity.

Threats

Severe weather is unlikely, but the storms will be prolific rain makers. Therefore, locally heavy rainfall could bring issues to flood-prone areas. Keep in mind, well-above-normal rainfall has been recorded so far this month so the ground is still quite saturated.

Generally speaking, around half an inch of rain looks likely for most spots, with locally higher amounts for those caught under the slow moving storms.
