Here's when it's supposed to rain on the Fourth of July in Louisville

Rain showers are expected to hit Louisville and southern Indiana this Independence Day.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Over 2 inches of rain fell yesterday across Louisville and other locations in southern Indiana. This has led to flash flooding into the mid portion of the holiday work week. Now, just in time for Independence Day itself, some more showers and storms will affect central Kentucky and southern Indiana.

A hot and very humid set up comes our direction this afternoon and trailing into the evening. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you plan to be outside celebrating our country's birthday.

Scattered showers and storms will push in from our west and will affect much of our area this morning & midday. We will quiet down for the afternoon.

Alerts

Keep in mind that the showers and storms that will develop to kick off the holiday will be heavy and will make for ponding of water on roadways and will also make for some minor flooding. Especially, since over 2 inches of rain occurred Wednesday night in Louisville and several other spots. Never by any means drive through a flooded roadway!

Flood Watches are issued for the I-64 corridor and points west of Louisville. Locally heavy rainfall will make for possible flooding through midday.

Timing

A few isolated showers and storms will try and develop just after sunrise today and may look to affect us into mid-morning. The big band of storms that will likely impact us will occur between 11 AM-2 PM today and will make for heavy rain (rainfall rates over an inch per hour), some wind (wind gusts up to 55 mph) and some small hail possible. Nonetheless, the threat of severe weather is very low. Just be on alert for flash flooding potential.

In summary, the morning and midday storms for the 4th of July will look to clear just in time for the mid-afternoon today. Whether you are spending it grilling with family and friends or at the pool or the lake, most spots will quiet down but will stay downright muggy and hot today.

With that said, lawns and grassy surfaces across central Kentucky and southern Indiana will certainly be wet, so make sure you pack a lawn chair as opposed to sitting in the grass if you plan to attend fireworks! Much drier air will arrive for Saturday and Sunday, making for a relaxing end to the holiday weekend.
