LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Despite the incoming rain from Hurricane Helene, concert goers are still enjoying Louder Than Life. Including Louisville's mayor.
In a post on social media, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg is heard welcoming everyone to the music festival and to Louisville.
He also dubbed the weekend as "Loudmouth weekend."
Danny Hays, the CEO of Danny Wimmer Presents, which is the company that puts on the music festival, first broke a bourbon bottle on stage.
"Now let me introduce you to the country's most rock and roll mayor," Hayes said.
That's when Greenberg smashed the guitar on stage.
"We are gonna smash this guitar in honor of the last 10 years, and with our excitement for the next 10 more," he exclaimed.
Day one of Louder Than Life concluded Thursday night. It is expected to be the driest in the four day forecast.
The event will only be evacuated in the case of lightening within an eight mile radius or strong winds, according to Hayes.
Organizers said the show will still go on, but be sure to bring an extra change of clothes.
"The fact that there are so many people here despite the risk of the severe weather coming from the hurricane just shows the strength and the sense of community that comes from Louder Than Life," festivalgoer Blake Alvey said.
But the festival did make some changes to their re-entry policy for the weekend storm.
Now, fans can go back and forth to their cars, or seek cover in an evacuation inside Freedom Hall.
"Obviously I do not want to get muddy, but if I do I will still have fun," festivalgoer Aleksander Rohde said.
In NuLu, the 14th NuLufest is also preparing for a soggy Saturday.
"Our hotels are at capacity thanks to Louder Than Life, so our visitors will be down here," Katie Meinhart, president of the NuLu Business Association, said. "It's getting out locals down here and making sure they're not scared of a little bit of rain. And we've got great restaurants to keep you dry in."
Despite the weather, they're hoping Louder Than Life will still be a smashing success and keep the crowds entertained at the fairgrounds.
