Louisville Economic Development Alliance meets for first time, discusses brand and goals

Over 30 members sit on the board, with representatives from nonprofits, businesses, higher education, local government and more.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The new Louisville Economic Development Alliance met for the first time on Wednesday.

It's a public-private partnership with the goal to increase development in the Metro.

More than 30 members sit on the board, with representatives from nonprofits, businesses, higher education, local government and more.

During the meeting, they established the basics of the alliance and the overall goals. They're aiming to create a citywide brand, encourage new development and support small businesses.

"I think we need a brand for our city that everyone can get around, get excited about, and then that we can sell to the world as just the official icebreaker when we're doing economic development activity, working in partnership with GLI on business retention; how can this group support businesses that are already here, continuing to grow in Louisville and not elsewhere," Mayor Craig Greenberg said.

He emphasized every member should get involved.

"We are hoping that everyone truly gets engaged, not just with the investment you've made in this organization, but with your or your colleague's time," the mayor said. "And we want your ideas on how to do that, do this. There is no, there is a plan, but there's a lot left to fill in, and a lot of room for input, for ideas, for direction that this organization goes to then, to then really impact how our city moves forward. "

Even though Greenberg was established as chair for the time being, he made it clear he doesn't want to stay in the position forever.

The organization aims to last throughout administrations, to provide a consistent economic plan.
