LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A southern Indiana man was arrested Saturday after police claim he pulled out a gun during a traffic stop and aimed it in the direction of an officer.
Indiana State Trooper Brandon Love stopped the driver of a white Hyundai about 1:30 a.m. for speeding and an equipment violation, according to an Indiana State Police news release. The traffic stop was initiated near Spring Street and Court Avenue in downtown Jeffersonville.
The driver stopped in the middle of the road after the officer activated his lights. Trooper Love observed three passengers, including one in the backseat, and approached the vehicle from the passenger side.
The officer observed the backseat passenger, 24-year-old Royal Allen, of New Albany, pull a black pistol from his waist and point the gun in the direction of the rear driver's side door with his finger on the trigger, according to the release. Trooper Love drew his gun and ordered the passenger to drop his weapon.
Allen complied and was arrested without further incident.
The gun was found to be fully loaded. Suspected marijuana was also found in the car.
Allen was transported to the Clark County Jail and was charged with two counts of intimidation, a level 5 felony, and pointing a firearm, a level 6 felony. He was also charged with possession of marijuana.
His cash-only bond was set at $25,000.
Officers from the Jeffersonville Police Department and other ISP troopers assisted during the traffic stop.
