A Bullitt County mother accused of shooting and killing her two young children appeared in court Monday morning.
Tiffanie Lucas pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of murder. In November, police said a neighbor found her two sons - 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. and 9-year-old Jayden Howard - shot inside Lucas' home on Bentwood Drive.
A judge ruled to keep Lucas' bond at $2 million. A trial date will be set for early 2024.
Police were called to Lucas' home in Shepherdsville on Nov. 8 and found both boys suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. They both were taken to Norton Children's Hospital where they later died.
Bullitt County Sheriff's Detective Richard Beahl took the stand last month, testifying what he saw and heard the day he answered the call for a double shooting on Bentwood Drive. He said two neighbors from the same house called 911 once they heard gunshots coming from next door.
Lucas told police someone had given her a firearm, which she left in the bedroom, indicating the shooting may have been an accident. She said no one else had been inside the home.
Beahl said Lucas told police she was "in such a bad spot," and that she would "never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me," and that what happened "was an accident."
